WCAG 2.1 AA remediation across public sites
Audited and remediated a large public site estate against WCAG 2.1 AA without a rebuild.
The problem
A compliance review flagged contrast failures, unlabeled controls, keyboard traps and undescribed media across public-facing sites. Rebuilding was not an option and the flagged list kept growing as new content shipped.
What I did
Ran automated plus manual and screen-reader audits, fixed the shared Cascade CMS multisite templates and components first so single changes resolved issues site-wide, then trained content editors on the authoring habits that were regenerating the failures. PHP scripts crawled published pages and logged issues to a database for tracking; JavaScript fixes made shared widgets keyboard- and screen-reader-accessible.
Outcome
The bulk of violations closed at the template level, and new content stopped reintroducing them. The remaining list became short enough to track as ordinary maintenance.
